Robotics Club

Home

The Robotics Club is open to all interested students. We meet in Mr. Coupland's room, Room 205, Tuesday and Thursday from 2:50 - 4:00. Our first meeting of the 2008-2009 school year will be Tuesday Sep 16. What will we be doing this year? Stop by and find out!

2007-2008

We built Sumo Robots using BOE-Bot (Board Of Education Bots) kits from Parallax Inc. This involved programming a microcontroller in BASIC and designing circuits to interface the microcontroller to a light sensor, LED, and servo motors. The BOE-Bot kits were paid for with generous donations from J.F. Cavanaugh Company, Farmington Hills; Vic Canever Chevrolet, Fenton; and Titus Welding, Farmington Hills.

Then we built frames for the robots with help from Brandon at ASI Workholding, a nearby company that generously let us use their metal shop and Brandon's time. Turns out Brandon graduated from our high school several years ago!

In April we hosted a RoboSumo competition for area middle and high schools. This was a qualifying event for Robofest, an international competition at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield. Our freshman team, the Killer Kitties, won the senior division!

The Robotics Club, Fall 2007. The VEX Sumo Robots we built in spring 2007 are at right.

Our own Killer Kitties, winners of the Senior Division

The Killer Kity robot moves in on Dark Helmet, the robot built by the other KWHS team, Deux Ex Machina. Everyone thought the fearsome Dark Helmet would prevail, but nooooo!

The Fource, winners of the Junior Division.
