Day 1 Mon. 6/2

When Paul (Gung-Ho) and his dad (Wounded Knee) finally got there at 7:45 we were off to Mr. Coupland’s house. When we got to Mr. Coupland’s house (Raven) we finally had everybody and we hit the road. It was a 9-hour drive that was really boring. We had a GPS that told us to turn into the middle of a river. When we got there my dad (Survivor) and I (Water boy) set up the tent. Then the kids had to cook dinner. That was a real pain. We cooked hot dogs, corn, and crescent rolls.

Day 2 Tues. 6/3

The first day on the trail, we drove about an hour to where the trail began. Then we walked ten feet and we hade to climb up a small ladder. We got to this gigantic mountain and we had to walk up it. When we got up that gigantic mountain we took a 45-minute rest that refueled us. We walked along the ridge for about 5 miles. We had to descend down the mountain while it was raining and the rocks were slippery. When we finally got to camp it started to pour down rain. My dad and I set up the tent in the rain and went to bed.

Day 3 Wed. 6/4

The second day on the trail, we got up and I wasn’t feeling sore for some reason. We walked about a mile to a road and Cody (Text) and his dad dropped out, because they had really sore shoulders and knees. So then we moved on. We didn’t know that we were going to be climbing a mountain everyday or my dad and I would have never gone. We were about half way up the mountain and my dad had to take a rest because he was suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration. When we finally got up the mountain we just walked along the ridge and it was easy. We started descending the mountain and it seemed like it was going to go on forever. We got to a road that had a bridge right next to it that crossed to the next side of the river. Mr. Coupland asked us if we wanted to camp here but my dad said no and we kept on hiking. My dad got tired and couldn’t hike anymore so Wounded Knee, Gung-Ho, and Raven went to the campsite to get water. After 45 minutes my dad finally got up and we started walking then we got to the campsite. My dad cooked Beef Stroganoff and Lasagna. We set up the tent and went to bed.

Day 4 Thur. 6/5

We woke up and my dad and I couldn’t do another day of hiking up another mountain so everyone went back to the road that we were at yesterday. Then Raven and Wounded Knee went off to look for a telephone.

Gung-Ho, Survivor, and I stayed at the creek and waited for them to get back. Gung-Ho and I thought we wouldn’t see Raven or Wounded Knee for about 5 hours. Survivor thought they were only going to be gone 30 minutes. So Survivor set his watch. Gung-Ho, Survivor, and I built a fire to pass the time. Raven and Wounded Knee came back in 30 minutes exactly and they got help.

When Dale from Daleville finally arrived we got in his car and went to go get our cars. Dale would never stop talking but he knew a lot from the trail. When we got to the cars we went to Wendy’s. The AC felt so good on our faces when we went in there. I had probably the biggest smile on my face after I was done eating. So then we went to the hotel to go find Cody and Cody’s dad. They weren’t there so we got rooms and stayed there for that night.

Day 5 Fri. 6/6

After we got done with breakfast we were going to go to Shenandoah National Park but Cody’s shoulder was hurting him so we went home on Friday.
